The Second Annual Pahrump Film Festival had many more attendees this year than last. We took up the entire parking lot of Red Sky Barbeque instead of just the patio!
Loney Childress, an independent filmmaker in Pahrump, took the award for Best Production with his short, “The Red Wraith” and the Best Story award for a commercial he did, titled “It’s What Makes Hotdogs Heavenly.” The latter having been entered in a contest for Heinz Ketchup.
The story line on the commercial was well thought out and executed. The Red Wraith has good special effects and some very good acting.
We hope to see more of Loney's film making next year. He definitely has some good ideas!
We were fortunate enough to have Ted V. Mikels, "King of Independent Cinema", come out and talk to the audience and give us a sneak preview of his new movie, “Demon Haunt.”
The Red Sky Barbeque had a popcorn machine at the ready for movie-goers and plenty of drinks on hand to wash it down. They also provided a gift certificate for “Dinner for Two” to Loney Childress, for his winning entries.
The festival included the premiere of "Dorks on the Moon". "Dorks" is a sci-fi comedy about a group of Pahrumpians that are unwillingly sent to the moon to colonize it. After they have been there for some time, the Bureau of Moon Management (BMM) wants to sell the moon to a developer, ruining the rural lifestyle the colonists have come to enjoy. What the colonists come up with to thwart the BMM and the evil developer, Frankie Royale, is hilarious.
After that, Ted V. Mikels movie, Demon Haunt, was shown. It is about a woman and her crippled sister, who, unknowingly, move into a haunted house. Once they found out the house is haunted by demons they call a man who claims to do cleansings. However, he really doesn’t want to do cleansings, but his friend talks him into “getting back into the business”.
